Steering & Suspension Repairs
Important Points to Watch for with Steering and Suspension Systems
Although the engine seems to be the most important part of your car or truck to service regularly, your steering and suspension are critical to the safe operation. Whether it be a fast sports car – or a huge lifted off-road vehicle – your suspension can play a huge factor in the overall functionality and comfort of your ride. These are two separate systems that work together to keep your car under control while driving.

What Does the Suspension System Do?
The suspension system supports the weight of your vehicle. It’s what provides a smooth ride and creates stability, drivability and better road handling. One of the main components here is your tires. We recommend maintaining good tread to ensure your safety. Other less known parts of this system are the shock absorbers, struts, control arms, sway/stabilizer bars, linkages, bushings, leaf springs, and joints. These components are all instrumental in how well your car or truck will travel. These items do wear and tear over time and should be checked.
What Does the Steering System Do?
You can’t really reach your destination effectively without proper steering! When the Car Craft team runs their diagnostics, they look at centre Links/drag links, drive belt, idler arm, pitman arm, power pump, rack and pinions, steering box, steering column, steering knuckle, steering rack, tie rods, and even the steering wheel. We fix all makes of cars and trucks, and we understand all these components. We are well aware of what to look out for, and when your vehicle will need servicing.
Book A Car Craft Steering and Suspension System Inspection
Most new vehicles will come standard with a “Schedule Maintenance” message to indicate it’s time to inspect your vehicle’s wear and tear. You can also check your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. It is extremely important to take care of your steering and suspension systems. Waiting too long to repair or replace components can be unsafe, or even cause more damage to your vehicle.
Symptoms of a Faulty Suspension and/or Steering System
There are a few signs your car gives you when it is time to book a repair appointment at Car Craft Automotive. You might notice a steering oscillation (otherwise known as “Death Wobble.”). What this feels like is violent shaking in your steering- wheel as you are driving. Sometimes it will only happen when reaching certain speeds, but it can also happen any time you drive; this will depend on the severity of the worn component. When experiencing steering oscillation, call our shop right away to have your vehicle inspected and repaired.
Another good way to look for a symptom is by listening to your car with the windows down and music off for any strange new sounds your car makes that wasn’t there before. If the noise comes when moving your steering wheel, it’s a safe bet it’s time to come in and have an inspection. We always provide a free estimate before the work starts. It is never a good idea to drive with any symptom of steering/suspension system failure; doing so can be unsafe.

When considering booking a repair appointment, please tell us of the symptoms you are experiencing. It’s also good to tell us of any past issues and repairs. Our mechanics are able to isolate issues by the sound of your vehicle and the mileage point you’re at. The higher your mileage is, the more components that should be inspected (if they’ve never been replaced before). It’s recommended to stay on top of the recommended maintenance schedule.
